WHERE IS THIS?

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

I don’t know if it’s because it’s so quiet but I find I’m appreciating my surroundings even more that usual.

I’ve always extolled the beauty of this area, in fact I may overdo it sometimes, but at the moment it’s the little things that are standing out. The buds on the trees, the start of the bluebells and the cherry blossom this year is amazing. Spring is definitely sprung and with the beautiful weather we’ve been having, it makes me thankful everyday that this is where I live.

On my walk the other day I was able to watch Turnstones on the beach and a wee bit further on there were Black Guillemots in the water who seemed to be there just to entertain me – I love how their legs match the insides of their beaks.

Colour is everywhere, from all the colour in nature to all the beautiful rainbows as children decorate their windows to cheer everyone up. On my walks I’ve also noticed and appreciated how well everyone is still doing with social distancing, the few people about are all taking care not to go too close but everyone says hello and smiles which is fantastic.

As a Town Ambassador I’ve always said hello to everyone when I’m working and often when I’m not (I forget I’m not in uniform), but now people seem more willing to smile and speak, which I really hope continues when this is all over as it makes everything so much more pleasant.

So in future if a wee lady gives you a big smile and says hello, it’s probably me – and I’m not that weird.

The previous photograph was taken at The Gem Box and this week it’s a photograph I posted on the LoveOban Facebook page. I think everyone will know where it is.
