The Oban Times

WHERE IS THIS?

June already, where has the time gone? We’re another step closer to opening up and I’m sure it’s made a huge difference to many people being able to meet with family and friends again. Luckily the weather has been kind to us and it’s been perfect for sitting in the garden.

Cakebreads Garden Centre has now reopened, as has Oban Whisky and Fine Wine, and Atlantis has reopened the tennis courts. I’m sure all the golfers out there are delighted at the news that Glencruitten Golf Club has also reopened to members. Do remember to phone and book ahead at Atlantis and the golf club, and to hear their rules for social distancing.

This weekend Oban was to have hosted Oban International Shanty Festival with bands from as far away as Canada and France, and thanks to the wonders of technology it will still be possible to have a digital version of the festival to whet our appetite for next year when it will hopefully take place live. This one is called Oban Shanty Festival at Home, for more details on how to join in check the LoveOban Facebook page or Oban Town Diary where you can click on a link to attend on Zoom.

This weekend would also have been the RNLI Open Day which unfortunately won’t go ahead, but they have lots of fun things on their Facebook page so please have a look and continue to show them your support.

Something else to look forward to is our town flower baskets going up this weekend which really cheer everything up, I so enjoy watching them grow and bloom.

There are lots of little things to look forward to as we edge slowly and carefully into opening up again.

The photograph last week was taken in Angus Terrace and this week’s isn’t too far from there.
