West Highland Peninsula tourism survey launched

Sunart, Morvern, Moidart, Ardnamurchan and Ardgour Tourist Association (SMMAATA) have launched a survey to help them gauge how the local tourism sector feel about reopening.

The Tourism Restart Community Survey will look at how West Highland Peninsulas tourism businesses are preparing, if at all, for reopening following the Scottish Government’s announcement that the Tourism Sector may be able to open from July 15.

A SMMAATA spokesperson said: ‘We are a remote community with good but geographically challenging health care provision and so need to balance the risks associated with any reintroduction of tourists with the revenue that this brings to our tourism businesses and the area as a whole.’

According to the group revenue from tourism is worth £20m per annum (both direct and indirect) to the West Highland Peninsulas.

indication of which businesses will reopen and how they will reopen,’ continued the spokesperson.

‘This will then help us in communicating with our visitors and importantly in assuring our communities that we are all working towards reducing the risks associated with welcoming back visitors.

The survey covers three key issues relating to the reopening of the tourist industry, confidence in welcoming visitors back to the area, in keeping communities safe and importance to the local economy.

Anonymous results of the survey will be shared with Industry bodies, local community councils and other destination marketing organisations.
