Overnight A82 closures

A 16-mile section of the A82 is to close for 10 nights in a £170,000 project later this month.

Around 2km (1.2m) between Tarbet and Ardlui near Loch Lomond will be resurfaced, said BEAR Scotland.

The work will start on Sunday September 20 and will take place between 8pm-6am.

It is scheduled to be finished by 6am on Friday October 2. No work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights, said BEAR Scotland.

Due to narrow widths throughout the two locations, a 16.5 mile section of the A82 will be closed in both directions between Tarbet and Crianlarich during working hours. This is to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, said a spokesperson.

A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82, A85, A819 and A83 during working hours.

BEAR Scotland said the A82 would remain open during the day to keep disruption to a minimum.

To ensure the safety of motorists, there will be a 30mph speed restriction as traffic will be running on a temporary surface, it said.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.

Access for local residents, businesses and scheduled bus services will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the working area.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance. Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative said: ‘This surfacing project across these two locations of A82 will help address any defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists. The overnight closures are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road at these locations.

‘We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects.
