Business owner recognised by Institute of Directors
The owner and managing director of an Oban-based business has been recognised by Scotland’s Institute of Directors (IoD).
Having been nominated by Highland and Islands Enterprise, Martin Sayer of Tritonia Scentific was a finalist in the Innovation Category at Scotland’s IoD virtual awards, hosted online by broadcaster Grant Stott on Tuesday September 8.
The IoD aims to support, represent and set standards for business, encourage entrepreneurial activity and promote responsible business practice for the benefit of the business community. In line with these aims, the awards recognise exceptional leadership, entrepreneurship and good governance. Since establishing Tritonia Scientific in 2018, Martin and his team have developed new and innovative ways of applying three-dimensional photogrammetry techniques for underwater surveying and monitoring of structures including harbours and piers. These services have been expanded to examine subsea oil and gas installations in the UK and abroad, mooring and anchoring systems for the marine renewables sector and impacted coral reef systems across the world.
Gillian Docherty, sponsor representative and judge, said: ‘Innovation is central to Scotland’s ambitions. We want more businesses to increase their level of innovation, realise their growth ambitions and create jobs, enabling a health and well-being across Scotland. We want to celebrate innovative behaviours and help inspire others to innovate and prosper. The judges were extremely impressed by the very high standard of entries and breadth and depth of innovation across multiple industries.’
Of Martin Sayer, the judges said: ‘He has demonstrated a significant personal capability across all IoD competency framework categories and built a successful and growing business with new and innovative techniques and solutions.
‘He has demonstrated great leadership and stakeholder management and demonstrated excellent strategic thinking.’
