Build your future Highland career

-

Construction careers in the West Highlands will be the focus of an online webinar this month.

The event is the third run by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), part of Lochaber Chamber of Commerce.

Following the success of their last two virtual career sessions, ‘Will Salmon Find Me A Career?’ and ‘Your Adventure, Your Career’, DYW West Highland will be linking with DYW Inverness and Central Highland and DYW North Highland, West Highland College UHI and CITB Construction to give young people a chance to find out more about the growing opportunities in the construction sector.

Join the team on Wednesday September 30 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, via Zoom, to hear from industry professionals, including site managers, quantity surveyors and business owners, who will be sharing career stories, advice and expertise to help young people make informed choices about their future.

Participants will have the chance to hear from and interact with speakers from construction companies Global Infrastructure, Robertson Construction, CITB, Bam Nuttall and DMD Construction, whilst also learning about construction courses at West Highland College UHI.

Aimed at school leavers, but also open to young people of up to 25 years, the live, one hour session will include a question and answer session and the chance to sign up for a mock interview with CITB. Teachers, parents and carers are also invited to join in to learn about the many job, apprenticeship and college course opportunities available.

If you are a school pupil considering your career options or are looking for a career change or opportunity after redundancy, university or college, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn from industry professionals.

Excited

Frazer Coupland, DYW West Highland Programme Lead and Chief Executive Officer of Lochaber Chamber of Commerce, said: ‘A growing industry like construction offers many varied and interesting roles and apprenticeships within the Highland region for our young people.

‘We are excited to work with a variety of construction companies and West Highland College UHI to create an informative and interactive online session for those interested in the industry.’

Anyone wishing to sign up to the event or for further information about other ways DYW West Highland is encouraging employers to promote the world of work for young people should visit www.dywwesthighland.org.
