MacLellan and Forbes form strong striking partnership

-

A strong South Lochaber Thistle ran out on the right end of a 4-1 score line against Rothesay Brandane in a friendly encounter in Kinlochleven last weekend, with goals from Iain MacLellan (2), Dave Forbes and Martin Munro.

MacLellan, on his return to the club, looked in top form and turned out a man-of-thematch performance.

The former Highland league striker forged a dangerous partnership with founding father and evergreen forward Dave Forbes in the Jags front line.

It took only 15 minutes for MacLellan to open his account for the afternoon. A Martin

Munro corner was flicked on to towering midfielder Andrew Maclean and MacLellan touched back inside and fired into the roof of the net.

Forbes followed his partner onto the score sheet only three minutes afterwards to make it 2-0 to the home side.

MacLellan was set free by the midfield and when his shot was saved by the Rothesay keeper, he squared the ball to Forbes, who made no mistake.

MacLellan bagged his brace as the first half wound down to the break. Full back Sean Noble impishly scampered along the wing after some tight interplay between Forbes and Maclean. When the ball arrived at the back post, MacLellan made no mistake.

The second half saw Rothesay rewarded with a goal after a free kick outside the box was rifled in and met with a dainty glancing header to reduce the arrears to 3-1.

The scoring was concluded by skipper Martin Munro exchanging passes with MacLellan then skipping in off his wing and scoring with trademark aplomb.

Manager Alan Gray made a raft of substitutions as the game went on, allowing players including Liam Gilchrist, Bradley Cameron and Cameron Melrose much-needed game time.

He said: ‘We are very grateful to Rothesay for making the trip and we are looking to returning the favour in the near future.’

South Lochaber Thistle will take on Dunoon away next week in another friendly encounter.

Iain MacLellan scores SLT’s first goal.
