Lochaber snow conditions ‘phenomenal’ but resorts still closed due to lockdown
Snow sport operators in Lochaber will be feeling frustrated at the moment on looking out of their windows at some of the best snow conditions in years covering the slopes, writes Mark Entwistle.
With day after day of blue skies and great snow cover, people are desperate to get resorts including Glencoe Ski Centre back open again after the latest national lockdown hopefully ends soon and start welcoming the return of snow sports enthusiasts.
Glencoe Mountain Resort boss Andy Meldrum told the Lochaber Times: ‘Not only have we got great snow, but the weather has been really good as well, with very little of the wind that normally affects early season operations.
‘We remain ever hopeful that we will open at some point in February. With most

other outdoors sports such as golf and tennis open, and hundreds of ski tourers on the mountains most days, it’s hopefully only a matter of time before we get the green light.’
Calling the snow conditions ‘phenomenal’, the Nevis Range Mountain Experience posted online on Monday: ‘Nevis Range is absolutely loaded with snow and more is forecast later this week. Conditions are awesome and we can’t wait to welcome you back onto the mountain when it is safe to do so.
‘We would like to thank the Scottish Government for all their help during these tough times and we completely support every decision they have made to safe guard our health and wellbeing.
‘We are continually reviewing our Covid-19 safety measures and are 100 per cent satisfied that when we are able to reopen we will provide a safe environment for you all to enjoy!.
