Oban’s 2,000 mile weekend success

- By Kathie Griffiths

A new One Million Miles initiative launched by Adventure Oban on Friday has seen more than 2,000 miles logged in the first weekend.

The new community exercise initiative encourages everyone to get outside and get active to help amass a community collective mileage. And the miles have already racked up since its launch on March 5, with participants adding their totals to the website.

Adventure Oban is encouraging everyone to remember to log their miles after each session using a simple online form – adventureoban.org/ onemillionmiles – which takes less than 30 seconds to fill in. They said there is no need to have access to any fancy technology such as sports watches or activity trackers and it is okay to estimate the distance you’ve covered.

The total started to climb at the weekend as people got out to do a range of activities from paddle-boarding to open-water swimming, walking, running and more. Adventure Oban said everyone can get involved regardless of activity level or interest. Whether someone is a walker, runner, cyclist, sailor, diver, climber, swimmer or anything in between.

The initiative involves a wide range of clubs and organisations including Oban High School, primary schools, Oban Mountain Rescue, Wee Walk Oban, North Argyll Cycle

Club, Hope2Oban and Atlantis Leisure, among others.

One Million Miles is also open to those from further afield with participation encouraged from friends, family and supporters all over the world.
