The Oban Times

WHERE IS THIS?

- ANDREW SPENCE editor@obantimes.co.uk

A year on from our first lockdown it is great to see some light at the end of the tunnel with the potential easing of restrictions.

We have schools returning next week and in particular a return to learning for senior pupils on a part-time basis. I am sure this will be welcomed by many parents, pupils, and teachers. These youngsters have spent the best part of the year not mixing physically but no doubt on social media constantly! They all miss the social contact and going into school.

From my own experience and from feedback I have received from others, our teachers at Oban High School have done a great job supporting our children online. It is amazing how far this type of learning has come in the last year. Of course, Oban High was on the front foot with this with its links to Tiree Schools.

It is likely we will see the easing of lockdown with many retail and hospitality businesses across the area in coming weeks. We must be mindful that the easing of lockdown will be a slow but welcome process that relies on all of us being responsible and patient.

At the BID office this week we have received enquiries for walking tours at the end of July and August from a domestic cruise operator, and this was certainly a surprise and most welcome as this trip will be for UK passengers. From the feedback we have received from Cruise Scotland there are very stringent conditions and measures to ensure the safety of passengers and the towns they visit. This summer will be a staycation summer and one in which to showcase our town at its best.

Last week’s photograph was the duck house on the Black Lynn, but where are we this week?
