VIEW FROM THE CHAMBER

-

When was the last time you spoke to a member of the Scottish Government’s Cabinet?

When was the last time you had the chance to get the needs of your business heard by those at the top of government?

If you are a member of Lochaber Chamber of Commerce, the answer to these questions is Tuesday.

One of the many benefits of chamber membership is the chance to contribute to and take part in meetings with cabinet secretaries, ministers, MSPs and MPs. Engaging directly with chambers of commerce is one of the most important ways that those in government can hear about the needs of the people and businesses they are representing.

This week we were delighted to welcome Ivan McKee MSP, the new minister for business, trade, tourism and enterprise, to an online meeting with around 30 of our members. As Mr McKee’s portfolio covers so many aspects that are crucial to the membership of Lochaber chamber, we were keen to invite him along.

We hope Tuesday’s constructive meeting will be the first of many with Mr McKee as we continue to work towards ensuring the best possible economic recovery for Lochaber.

The meeting with Mr McKee follows two other recent chamber meetings with senior government figures. Members have met with Kate Forbes MSP, the cabinet secretary for finance and the economy, and Ian Blackford, MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber and leader of the SNP in Westminster.

Through these meetings, we have been able to give a voice to our businesses and ensure that the politicians working on our behalf are well aware of the key issues, challenges and needs of Lochaber businesses.

Join Lochaber Chamber of Commerce to get your voice heard by those in power. Visit www.lochaberchamber.co.uk to join online or email membership@lochaberchamber. co.uk to arrange a chat with one of the team.
