Enjoy summer in Lochaber...responsibly
The summer holidays are here! School’s out for seven whole weeks...and we’re looking forward to helping you share family adventures in the Outdoor Capital of the UK!
With so many of us holidaying at home this year, we’re very lucky that Lochaber is the perfect place for a fantastic staycation summer experience.
And it’s not just visitors who can enjoy exploring Lochaber. If you’re staying close to home this summer, there’s lots to see and do in our own back garden - after all, it is one of the most amazing natural playgrounds in the country! You don’t have to venture far to find a new adventure to enjoy with the family or to share with visitors.
This year, more than ever, we all know that we need to take care of our surroundings and communities while we’re out and about.
VisitScotland’s new responsible tourism campaign, called ‘Scotland – Yours to Enjoy. Responsibly’, aims to raise awareness of the importance of exploring the outdoors responsibly with the focus on asking people to leave no trace of their visit and protect Scotland’s stunning countryside. This campaign also helps people to share responsible tourism messages via social media using the hashtag #RespectProtectEnjoy.
As part of Lochaber Chamber of Commerce’s work to support local business, we promote the area using Lochaber’s destination brand ‘The Outdoor Capital of the UK‘. If you haven’t had a look at the Outdoor Capital recently, check us out on instagram, facebook and at www.outdoorcapital. co.uk. You’ll find loads of great ideas for the summer holidays and beyond!
Throughout the pandemic and recovery, we’ve been working with VisitScotland and other key tourism partners to support local tourism businesses and to create a new Scotland-wide visitor management plan and marketing activity that will encourage people across Scotland to enjoy our outdoors in a respectful way.
We can all do simple things to help protect and respect our landscape and communities. Please remember to:
• Pick up litter; and take it home with you
• Avoid crowded areas and move on if a location is too busy
• Park responsibly and safely
• Clean up after your dog
• Keep your dog on a leash around farmland
• Do not disturb natural flora, fauna or animal habitats
• Follow current covid guidance
By enjoying Lochaber responsibly and respecting others and our precious environment, we can all enjoy our fabulous Outdoor Capital of the UK now and in the future.
Follow the Outdoor Capital of the UK on social media for lots of inspiration to help you discover great summer holiday activities, and share the inspiration with others to explore local, shop local, and enjoy local...responsibly!
