The Oban Times

WHERE IS THIS?

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

The first of July already, I can’t believe we’re over half way through the year.

Despite everything that’s happening in the world, time doesn’t seem to be slowing down. I’m so happy that all our younger folk are now getting the chance to be vaccinated and the organisation and speed with which it’s all happening is really impressive.

The spike in Covid cases in Oban at the moment is quite scary and it may be because it’s been easy to become complacent after this length of time, but it’s a reminder, if we needed it, that the bugs are still out there and even those who have been vaccinated need to take care and continue to wear masks, clean our hands and give each other space.

In saying that we do need to be out and about again supporting our local businesses who have worked so hard throughout to keep us safe and keep their businesses afloat.

We owe it to all of those people who have worked throughout the pandemic and the ones who are able to reopen now who have kept us fed, watered and supplied with the things we need to keep us happy. They’ve put their health on the line to do that and now we should be supporting all our local businesses whether they’re a one-man-band or a national company.

If we stick to the guidelines and take care then we can lead a normal life, seeing people, shopping, going out for coffee or to eat and getting out and about to appreciate the summer – just remember to be OBAN MINDED.

The photograph last week of the beautiful flower baskets was taken in Airds Crescent at the Wallace Optometrist end. This week’s is something I hadn’t noticed until recently.
