Behind the scenes at Atlantis

-

Atlantis Leisure is grateful to the community for the support shown following last week’s decision to close the centre for 10 days to help stop the spread of the latest Covid outbreak in Oban.

Atlantis’ first commitment is to the safety of our customers and staff team. Whilst closing the centre is undoubtedly very frustrating, it will help to halt the spread of this latest local outbreak and enable the community to recover more quickly.

Since opening up after the recent lockdown we have been delighted with the response of our customers to the newly configured and safer environment. Read on to find out more about what’s been happening behind the scenes as part of that:

Facilities

Our wifi system is undergoing an upgrade this month to improve its strength and coverage throughout the building. This is part of our ongoing commitment to develop greener ways for us to run Atlantis. Improving the wifi in the building allows us to more fully use cloud-based systems which ultimately mean we’re able to use less paper.

Customers will feel the benefit too, with better connectivity throughout the building enabling easier future activity booking whilst you are in the centre.

Atlantis was successful in a number of grant funding applications which have enabled us to complete various projects around the centre.

These include completing the development in our wet-side changing area by upgrading the W/C facilities. The upgrade includes new walling, flooring and sanitary innovations such as automatic taps to increase the safety of the facility and reduce water usage.

Elsewhere in the centre, improvements have been made to some of our well-used flooring with new carpet tiles laid between the café area and the wet-side changing area. The café area itself has a new floor covering after more than 27 years of faithful service from the old lino.

Café Atlantis

We are hopeful that the café will be able to reopen soon after the main centre reopens following this latest closure.

In preparation for reopening, we’ve been working alongside Beth and Iain MacDonald on improvements that will benefit the way the café operates. Much to the excitement of all the staff team, one of these includes a brand new coffee machine! The café and the soft play often work in partnership and we’re continuing to review the potential reopening of the soft play so that it too might be able to return as soon as possible.

Atlantis Activity Programme

Whilst the Atlantis Leisure building is closed and the activities it hosts are on pause, outdoor activities remain available to book. Outdoor tennis is still open with all sessions requiring booking in advance. The Atlantis Summer

Holiday Camp programme is under review – currently we will not run any activities during the first two weeks of the holidays.

The programme is necessarily very staff intensive and being able to run any event safely is our first concern. We’ll continue to review our plans and announce any changes via social media and our website.

Staff

Huge congratulations to Donna Moore after she passed her latest circuit training qualification – well done Donna!

We’re delighted that Rebecca Mackinnon has taken on the role of Welfare and Support Officer for the Atlantis staff team. Rebecca will offer support across a variety of areas relating to how staff are getting on at work, possible training opportunities and general advice and guidance.
