Pipped in five-goal thriller

Fort William Football Club entered an important week of their season as they faced Forres Mechanics in the league before a cup tie midweek with Lossiemouth, writes Ally Rowantree.

Fort travelled to Mosset Park on Saturday with only one change from last week's match and could not have hoped for a better start when, after five minutes, Ruairidh Macdonald scored his first senior goal after moving up from the youth ranks.

The lead did not last long though as Forres replied within two minutes through striker Moray Taylor. Both teams continued to attack and it was Forres who managed to go ahead on the 35th minute with a Ross Macpherson goal.

Fort William went into into the break trailing 2-1, despite a bright first half. Into the second period and this time it was Forres who were quickest off the mark, extending their lead to 3-1 through Allan Macphee.

Despite falling behind, Fort never looked out the game and continued good pressure was rewarded with a first goal for Connor Moore on 82 minutes. Connor is another player from the youth ranks. Unfortunately Fort couldn’t find the equaliser in the last eight minutes and the game finished 3-2 to Forres Mechanics. This was a much-improved performance from the team after recent results with their hard work paying off on the attacking end in breaking a scoring drought in the first few matches.

The team only had a few days to rest up before they travelled to face Lossiemouth in the North of Scotland Cup last night (Wednesday). Fort face Brora Rangers this Saturday, August 21.
