The Oban Times

WHERE IS THIS?

- MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

By the time you read this, it will be the day of the 150th Argyllshire Gathering - and that’s quite something to celebrate.

Well done to those organising it for pulling everything together in such difficult circumstances.

I’ve always enjoyed Games Day, with the march up to the field the thing I look forward to most. I love hearing the pipers in the distance and the swell in volume as they get closer, with the crowds following behind.

Over the last few years, Joe and I have been on George Street with the brochures for the Games which has been really good fun, meeting all the people who have come to the town especially for the Games and from almost every country you can think of. Their enthusiasm and excitement is really contagious.

It’s amazing how looking at things through another person’s eyes can alter how you see it. What we take for granted in Oban, the beautiful bay and scenery, the distillery and castle are things others get so excited about and luckily enough in my job I get to see things through fresh eyes every day.

Lots of events are restarting at the moment to great excitement. I’ve been to a quiz in the Lorne which was great fun, I have tickets for a few things coming up in the Corran Halls and I’ve now got the bingo in aid of the Dove Centre to look forward to. After so long with nothing to look forward to, there is a danger I’ll soon have something on every night of the week.

Last week’s photograph was of the Lady Avenel at the pontoons. This week might be a bit trickier.
