New e-bikes named ‘Fyfies’ after Kinlochleven’s Eoin
Kinlochleven Community Trust's e-bikes are to be named ‘Fyfies' in memory of former trust director Eoin Fyfe, a keen cyclist and community man, who died last year.
Earlier this month, the trust held a community cycle day to launch its pool of e-bikes funded through Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Community-Led Tourism Infrastructure Fund.
More than 100 adults and children enjoyed guided e-bike rides organised by Lochaber Environment Group and Jahama Highland Estates; crafts with Kinlochlovin' and On The Trail Again; cycle safety sessions with West Highland Wheelers and discussions on bicycle memories with the Highland Senior Citizens Network and Highland Cycle Ability Centre which brought a range of adapted cycles.
The Green Health event was made possible with funding from Highland and Cairngorms LEADER local action groups, The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and The Highland Green Health Partnership aims to encourage more use of green and blue spaces. The People's Postcode Lottery provided funding for the bike shed. A trust spokesperson told the Lochaber Times: ‘We are thrilled to launch the ‘Fyfies' – our own pool of e-bikes. They are a fabulous asset for the trust to encourage outdoor activity, exercise and time spent in nature.
‘The first stage of the project will be to lease them out to residents for a suggested donation which will be available soon.'
