The order of Remembrance Day services in Fort William and Spean Bridge on Sunday November 14 has been published.

The Fort William Remembrance Day Parade will form in the Viewforth Car Park at 10.30am and come to attention at 10.45am before marching off to the War Memorial.

The order of the parade will be: the pipe band, Colour Party, parade commander, council members, Royal British Legion Scotland, Commando Veterans, Fleet Protection Group Royal Marine, Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, police, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, St Andrew’s Ambulance Corps, British Red Cross, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Training Corps, Red Cross Cadets, Boys Brigade, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides.

At 10.58am, the parade commander will read the Ode to the Fallen: ‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.’ The parade will reply: ‘We will remember them.’

The bugler sounds the Last Post at 10.59am before the two-minute silence begins at 11am, broken by the pipe major playing a bagpipe lament.

Following a prayer and reading by the presiding minister, wreaths will be laid by Highland Council, the Royal British Legion, Commando Veterans, Navy, Army and RAF representatives, police and uniformed organisations. Family wreath bearers will then be called forward.

An ode will then be read: ‘When you go home tell them of us and say, for our tomorrow they gave their today.’

After the Act of Remembrance, the Colour Party will march off first, followed by ward members and guests. Unit commanders will then be given the order to ‘Carry On’. Once spectators have cleared, unit commanders will fall out their own units and, if attending the church service, will move into the church.

At Spean Bridge, the service will be held at the Commando Memorial at 3pm. Organisations will muster at 2.40pm at the lay-by on the south side of the Commando Memorial and at 2.45pm will march northwards to the memorial using the old Gairlochy Road.

Drivers are requested to arrive early to avoid getting tangled up with the parade which starts at 2.45pm. Cars are asked to park in the Memorial Car Park and along the north side of the B8004 to Gairlochy and the east side of the main road.

The area of road opposite the Memorial Car Park is reserved for disabled people
