Explore the possibilities on offer at the Advancing Manufacturing Centre

-

On Friday November 19, the new Advancing Manufacturing Centre at Marine Walk, Fort William, will be throwing open its doors all day for a special ‘behind the scenes’ Open Day to allow businesses and interested members of the public to look around the centre.

The Advancing Manufacturing Centre is a unique facility in the Highlands allowing businesses in remote and rural communities to compete on a global level using all of the advantages that advanced technology can bring but at zero cost.

The centre’s aim is to be a drop-in hub for anyone looking to bring their business ideas to life.

AMC project manager Margaret Weir told the Lochaber Times: ‘We want to encourage companies of all sizes to come and find out about the free support and expertise we can offer across a wide range of sectors, including food and drink, marine, construction, renewables, aquaculture and hospitality.

‘Our open day is a chance to see how specialist advice and equipment can transform even the smallest business by bringing ideas for products to life, exploring diversification options for resilience and providing access to some of our suppliers to explore the art of what could be possible.

‘We will have demonstrations of 3D scanning and printing, CNC machining, including Mazak CV5-500 – the first Mazak model of its kind in Scotland, and access to our advancing manufacturing lab.’

Come along on Friday November 19, from 11am to 3pm, to find out more about how the centre could help your business.

There will be on-the-hour centre tours so you can see all the machinery and software on offer. Find out what it could do for you – you might not even realise the ways that advanced manufacturing could benefit your business. The team is here to help and it’s all completely free.

Meet the equipment makers, who will give demonstrations so you can see the equipment in action, plus have a look at samples of products designed and created by AMC that showcase the art of the possible.

The West Highland College business team will also be there to discuss all your training and funding support needs.

To keep guests Covid-safe, the centre team advises booking onto a tour, which will be held every hour from 11am, with the last one starting at 2pm, to help

maintain safe social distancing. If you’d like to book a space on a tour – or can’t make it on the day but would like to find out more – contact Margaret Weir or Andy Harpur on amc. whc@uhi.ac.uk.
