Not all plain sailing but plenty to celebrate

-

Members of Lochaber Yacht Club (LYC) came together at the end of October to celebrate all that was good with their 2021 season.

And the general consensus was that after a challenging time for the club due to Covid it was fantastic to see sailing return to Loch Linnhe.

LYC worked hard to ensure Covid protocols were in place to enable members to sail safely, take part in events and enjoy being back on the water.

The club benefited from new members joining and achieving their RYA qualifications, members participating in the club regatta plus a number of dinghy and keelboat races taking place throughout the season.

Club members also took part in West Highland Yachting week, the Soling Nationals and represented LYC at dinghy championships around the UK.

All this hard work culminated in the annual prizegiving evening and annual general meeting. The event was well-attended by members with the trophies presented by outgoing Commodore Hamish Loudon and Cherryl Allan.

The club thanks Sharon at Slainte Mhath for her help engraving the trophies.

After the prizegiving, it was time for Hamish to be thanked for his long service and dedication to the club. He was presented with the Ancient Mariners award in recognition of his years spent volunteering at LYC. New Commodore Vince Dean was presented with the Commodore’s burgee and chaired a short meeting to discuss the future season and members thoughts on what the club’s focus should be for 2022. The new committee will continue to meet monthly during the winter to plan the 2022 programme.
