Tourism is everyone’s business
Tourism Day is always a big part of Lochaber Ideas Week and this year is no different.
The pandemic and the climate emergency are both having a major impact on the way people go on holiday and what they want to do at their destination.
Sustainability will be key to the future of tourism and during Lochaber Ideas Week’s Tourism Day on Thursday November 18, we will consider what we can all do now to make sure we are ready for the future.
This all-day event at Ben Nevis Distillery is open to everyone in the community with an interest in the future of our tourism industry.
You don’t need to be a member of Lochaber Chamber of Commerce to join in Lochaber Ideas Week events – everyone’s welcome.
Hosted by Laurence Young, of the award-winning local tourism business Woodlands Glencoe, the Tourism Day on Thursday November 18, will give participants a chance to
hear an illuminating mix of insights on areas like sustainable development, environmental management and tourism investment.
We’re pleased to benefit from an international perspective on sustainable tourism from sustainability and tourism expert Keith Sproule.
Keith will join us on live video link from his base in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA.
Keith is an accomplished tourism professional and advisor on sustainable development. His professional background includes serving as an advisor to governments on three continents and operations consulting with hotel and tourism companies globally.
We’ll gain a more local perspective on sustainable tourism and environmental management from the Highland Council Rangers, who have worked hard over this last year to inform and advise visitors on taking care of our unique environment as they enjoy their holiday.
What have been the main issues they have encountered and what are the priorities for 2022 and beyond?
We’ll hear about the exciting new plans for marketing Lochaber to UK visitors under the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ brand and the investment plans of key local tourism businesses.
Find out how your tourism business could benefit from the increasing interest in active travel and all things two-wheeled. The Highland Bike Plan offers real opportunities for sustainable tourism,
plus how can you make the most of the return of the UCI Mountain Biking World Cup in May next year after a two-year hiatus.
And don’t forget the big one...the World Championships in 2023.
We’re looking forward to a varied and insightful day looking at the challenges and opportunities for our unique tourism industry in Lochaber. We hope to see you there.
The event starts at 9.30am and includes a light lunch and valuable networking opportunities.
