Hope hampers fill festive need GETINVOLVED

- by Kathie Griffiths kgriffiths@obantimes.co.uk

More than 400 Christmas hampers have been sent out so far by Oban’s Hope Kitchen.

Hampers full of everyday staples, festive treats and gifts for adults and children have been delivered to people in Mull, Lorn and the isles.

And it is all thanks to the generosity of well-wishers who responded to this year’s hamper appeal, says Hope’s service manager Catriona Petit.

Referrals to receive hampers have come from lots of organisations and from people themselves making sure they reach where they are most needed.

‘We’ve had so much support from people this year. We’d like to thank everyone. There is still time for people to let us know where other hampers are needed and would be valued. We don’t want to miss anyone,’ said Catriona.

‘We’ve had so many people give us gifts of food and money. Yet again the community has come good to help us,’ she added.

This year’s hamper distribution was co-ordinated by Louise Murphy who has done ‘an amazing job’ said Catriona.

Hope Kitchen will be open all over Christmas - except Monday December 27 and Monday January 3.

‘No one needs to be alone this Christmas. We are here and it would be great to see some new faces if there is anyone who hasn’t come through our door yet. It might be someone who is unable to visit family or travel, they can come and see us instead,’ said Catriona.

This year’s Christmas lunch will be served from noon to 3pm – a feast of sandwiches, soup and cakes. It would be helpful if anyone planning on going along could let Hope know by calling 01631 565730 but it is not essential.

‘Christmas is not the best for everyone but we would love to have them come and join us,’ added Catriona.

A Carol-oke on Wednesday December 22 from 6pm to 8pm is just one of the many festive alcohol-free activities lined up at Hope.
