Positive performance from Fort William Under 14s
Fort William Youth Development FC U14’s took on a strong Portree FC team in a friendly at Claggan Park last weekend.
The match is believed to be the first Youth’s game played there in seven years.
The Portree side were made up largely of U15’s players and the size difference was telling.
Both sides played some great football, thanks to a fantastic playing surface which is credit to the hard work that has been put in by a number of local people.
The game was played over three 30-minute sections with Portree taking a 1-0 lead into the first break following a strong run through the Fort defence and quick snap shot.
In the second 30, both teams were well matched and even with the torrential rain the sides had some great interchanges of passing and some quality movement.
Portree bundled in a late goal in the half making it 2-0 heading into the final 30-minute segment.
Fort pulled a goal back with some great pressure on the Portree defence, leading to a defensive error, and Lex Edgar pounced on the loose ball and smashed it over the keeper into the roof of the net.
Pressure was then piled on Portree by the Fort attack for the remaining 10 minutes of the game but they just couldn’t find the goal to draw the game level.
Portree pounced and sent two men through in the final minute to make it 3-1. Despite remonstrations from the Fort coaches to the referee for an offside call, the goal stood.
