No change to bin collections over Christmas

-

Christmas and New Year holidays are at weekends so bin collections will stay as normal over the festive period.

Argyll and Bute Council is reminding people to put out their household waste and recycling as usual on the days that their bins are normally collected.

Tips on things you can do to help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill over this busy time are also being shared.

A council spokesperson said: ‘You can put paper, card, cans and plastic bottles/tubs/pots/ trays in your recycling bins or bags. Please remember to rinse out the cans and plastics. Many types of Christmas paper and cards can also be recycled. Unfortunately we can’t recycle anything covered in glitter or foil-based paper. If you want to check if the paper is foil, scrunch the paper up. If it springs back, then please put it in the general waste bin. ‘Our recycling centres will be closed on December 25 and December 26 and also on January 1 and January 2 but you can find a full list of centres on our website for household rubbish and recycling at argyll-bute.gov.uk’

Residents who want to recycle their Christmas trees can also take them to household waste and recycling centres at the end of the season.

You can also download 2022 bin collection calendars from the council website.

‘We are very grateful that few people now request printed calendars - this allows us to direct scarce resources to vital services and saves paper. If you are unable to access the internet, you can check your next bin uplift day by calling 01546 605514 and pressing option two for a 24/7 response. If necessary, you can request one printed calendar for your household by calling 01546 605514 and choosing option three to ask for a printed copy. Please remember, staff are mostly working from home so it may take two to three weeks before someone is in the office to print out a calendar to send it to you,’ added a council spokesperson.
