Rockfield Primary run raises fantastic £1,600

-

Rockfield Primary School staff, parents and pupils gathered together at Oban Rugby Club on Friday October 29 to complete a sponsored 10km run to raise money for the school’s Learning Centre.

Rockfield Learning Centre provides a bespoke learning experience for children who have additional and complex support needs.

The run, organised by Learning Centre teachers Mr Ainscough and Mr Garvin raised a massive £1,622.45. The run was supported by the whole school community, as well as attracting donations from the wider community.

As Mr Ainscough explained in a recent Rockfield News video: ‘The Learning Centre is such a fantastic place, so well-resourced with staff and equipment, but what we would love to be able to do is enhance every possible opportunity for our children to learn, make progress and to be healthy as they move forward.’

On the day, more than 25 runners, which included staff, parents and pupils, completed the 10k as they ran around the wet and muddy perimeter of the Oban Rugby Club pitches.

Mr Ainscough and Mr Garvin dressed as the 118 runners, and other staff runners included Mrs Martin (Learning Centre outdoor learning teacher), Mrs Cassells (P7 teacher, along with pupils from her class), Mr Mitchell (Gaelic teacher), Mr Murray (Learning Centre PE teacher) Mrs Bryden and Ms MacIntosh (OHS English teachers). Pupils included children from mainstream classes, and past and present Learning Centre children. Many other staff, parents and pupils supported the event.

There was baking and refreshments organised by P6 and P7 pupils. On the night some supporters were inspired to join in by walking several laps with the children.

Rockfield head teacher Mrs Fothergill said: ‘We are very proud of the children, staff and parents who took part or supported those running. The funds will be used to enhance the children’s learning experiences within the Learning Centre. We are very lucky to have such a great staff team who have given up their time to organise this.’
