Exciting development at Rockfield

-

The doors are open and the lights are back on!

Despite many challenges, it’s been an exciting year at The Rockfield Centre, with Oban’s community hub reopening following its refurbishment, hosting a varied programme of workshops, talks, live music, exhibitions, a conference and other events. There was even a visit recently from Santa himself!

The support of the community has been outstanding since the very start of the centre’s journey and, with its board of trustees, hard-working staff team and loyal volunteers, The Rockfield Centre is now embarking on the next chapter of its development as a vital community hub and key venue in the West of Scotland.

Current priorities include completing the internal fit-out of the building, creating a community canteen space with kitchen/servery and opening the centre’s Play Museum, as well as continuing to develop a wide-ranging inclusive programme of activity in the centre focused on the four themes of the centre - arts/culture, history/heritage, education/enterprise and health/ wellbeing.

With exciting plans ahead, Oban Communities Trust is seeking committed new trustees to join its existing board and, alongside fellow trustees, to support the management team at Rockfield in steering the overall direction for the organisation into the next exciting phase of its development as a well-governed charity, sustainable for the future. Becoming a trustee is an important role and an opportunity to make a positive difference by supporting and enhancing our community. For further information about the role and responsibilities of becoming a trustee, the particular skills being sought at present and how to apply, please contact Joanie Garvin by email on joanie@therockfieldcentre. org.uk or call 07714 853410.

The deadline for applications is Friday January 14, 2022. Prospective trustees will be asked to stand for election by the members at the AGM in February 2022.

Oban Communities Trust/The Rockfield Centre is a registered Community Benefit Society with charitable status run by the community for the community.
