Lighting up Oban’s Hogmanay sky

Oban’s Hogmanay Fireworks are back with a bang!

-

Organisers Bid4Oban have pulled out all the stops to make sure 2021 is seen off with style and 2022 is welcomed in with open arms.

When the midnight bells chime, a riot of colour and flashes will light up the sky above the town’s iconic McCaig’s Tower.

There is no where quite like Oban to celebrate Hogmanay, the ships’ horns blasting in the bay add to the celebrations making it an unforgettable experience.

Bid4Oban’s Kay MacDonald says there is no where better to be than Oban on Hogmanay this year.

‘It’s going to be spectacular. To see the fireworks shooting out of McCaig’s Tower is just gorgeous, nothing can beat it for a backdrop,’ she said.

Covid cancelled last year’s display so we are delighted to be back this year and Lighting up Oban’s Hogmanay sky. Oban’s Hogmanay Fireworks are back with a bang! Having such a long Esplanade is a benefit at a time like this with plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy the display safely. This year’s display is of course subject to change to keep in line with government guidelines but we have our fingers crossed that 2022 will be welcomed in true Oban style.’ added Kay.

Fireworx Scotland has the task of putting on a display to dazzle, the company is no stranger to the town and were responsible for Oban’s Bonfire night show.

People planning on coming along are being asked to keep themselves and each other safe by following any current Covid guidelines.

‘This year we ask people to be mindful, remain in family groups or bubbles and find lovely quiet quiet spots to watch the fireworks, they’re visible from lots of gardens so you don’t have to go far to see them.,’ said Kay

The hope is with plans for the display, that will last about ten minutes, revealed early - pet owners in the town will have plenty of notice to make arrangements to help keep their pets calm and happy.

Organised fireworks displays also cut down on any risks posed by random rockets being let off from private gardens.

‘This year’s fireworks are going to be a fantastic way to herald in a super new year for Oban.

‘We are looking forward to another good staycation year, it’s going to be busy. The cruise ships will be coming back, we’ll be building on our reputation as a great holiday destination as well as being Scotland’s seafood capital - we may even be celebrating becoming Scotland’s smallest city!’

Events already in the diary for next year is Oban’s first in-person International Shanty Festival that will be taking place in venues across the town in June.
