Safety training for motorcyclists

-

Police Scotland and road safety partners in the north of Scotland are holding training courses for motorcyclists to help them ride responsibly and reduce the number of collisions.

One-day Rider Refinement North courses will take place between now and October in Inverurie, Elgin, Perth and Dingwall.

The course, the only one of its kind in Scotland, aims to raise awareness of the importance of road safety and make riders think of the personal consequences of taking risks.

Led by police motorcyclists and accompanied by an observer from the Institute of Advance Motorists, the course will look at key risk factors and provide riders with the knowledge and skills to be safer.

The course involves demonstration rides and observed rides with feedback from officers, examination of riders’ bikes and safety checks that should be carried out before any journey.

Joining forces with Police Scotland on this road safety initiative are Road Safety

Scotland, Institute of Advance Motorists, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Highland Council, Tayside Road Safety Forum Partnership, Aberdeenshire Council, Aberdeen City, Moray, Robert Gordon University and RoSPA.

Dates for the courses are: Inverurie: Saturday May 7; Saturday June 12; Saturday July 24.

Elgin: Saturday July 9

Perth: Saturday May 21; Saturday June 18; Sunday July 17; Saturday August 20; Saturday September 17; Sunday September 25; Saturday October 15.

Dingwall: Sunday May 22; Sunday June 12; Sunday June 26; Sunday July 10; Sunday August 7; Sunday August 14.

The cost of the course is £40 per rider and includes lunch.

Spaces are limited so providing more than one date for attendance will increase riders’ chances of being able to participate.

Anyone interested in attending a course should email operationriderrefinement@ scotland.police.uk.
