Oban U14s hosted their Lochaber counterparts in perfect conditions at Glencruitten.

As in the reverse fixture, Lochaber made a fast start with their powerful No 8 scoring two tries in the first five minutes and with both tries being converted Oban trailed 0-14.

After a few driving runs from Hamish Macintyre, Conan Burns and Louis Smyth, the ball was picked up at a ruck by the dynamic Hamish Macintyre, who managed to force his way over the try line for Oban’s first try converted by the try scorer.

Oban were back in the game but struggling to win the breakdown battle, especially the rucks. The backs however were well marshalled by fly half Daniel Campbell and made good ground every time they had possession, with the impressive Conan Burns leading the way. After another of Burns’ mazy runs the ball was moved to Hamish Macintyre to force his way over for his and Oban’s second try to take the score to 12-14 at half time.

In the second half Oban improved their rucking and tackling to score two quickfire tries through Milo Llewelyn and a hat trick try from Hamish Macintyre who also added a conversion.

Lochaber never gave up and responded immediately with a converted try by their No 8 after a knock on by Oban in their own 22.

In the last 15 minutes Oban’s improved rucking game resulted in two more tries from the ever consistent Josh Olds, converted by Macintyre, and livewire hooker Aidan Lawrie, converted by Arran Martin.

Now with a comfortable 3821 lead, the hosts began to run the ball from all areas resulting in further tries from Milo Llewelyn and captain Franeck Kupczak, both converted by Arran Martin.

Lochaber again fought back with their No 8 scoring his fourth try.

In the final play of the game scrum half and man of the match Milo Llewelyn tapped a penalty to himself from within his own 10m line and accelerated away to score his hat-trick try under the post with Arran Martin making the final conversion.
