Shillin’ for the ’orse

SIR: It was a great joy to see dear old Prince Monolulu brought back to life in the November Oldie (Olden Life: Who Was Prince Monolulu?). I used to go to meetings at Epsom and Prince Monolulu would almost invariably be there with his cry ‘I got an ’orse. I got an ’orse. Shillin’ for the ’orse and a shillin’ if the ’orse wins.’ I bought his tip once. Never again. I never saw anyone give him his extra shillin’ if the ’orse won.
