The Oldie

Oldie aboard

-

SIR: I was amused by The Old Un’s Notes on the ‘Baby Aboard’ signs on car rear windows (May issue). I fear, if I saw a thornproof tweed jacket and tie in the rear window of a car I would presume they were on their way to the dry cleaners. A year ago, I designed and printed my own sign [See above]...

There has been little reaction, perhaps because people think us foreign visitors. Or maybe they are embarrassed by the incorrect spelling of ‘geriatrics’ – if they are not fans of Asterix the Gaul. Yet, generally, drivers have kept a reasonable distance behind us, maybe because they understood the veiled threat in the sign – Beware oldies! Denis Mayne, Bangor, County Down.
