Normandy intact
SIR: I read the article about Normandy (‘Paradis Perdu’, July issue) with interest since it concerned the area where we had a maison secondaire for twenty years.
The mention of the view from Domfront Castle surprised me. I took photographs in 1998, when we bought our house, just outside Domfront, from the back of the mairie, overlooking the beautiful countryside, and then again at the end of 2015, when we sold the house. The view was almost identical.
I have frequented the Coccinelle shop in Barenton often. There is no way you could think you were in a Co-op. It is very French – especially the charcuterie. Every piece of meat is labelled telling you which (very local) farm it comes from. Susan Hewer, Seaford, East Sussex.
