Ghostly murderers

-

SIR: In Memory Lane (June issue), Kirsteen Stewart writes of her father Duncan Stewart’s death. The murder in 1949 was planned at a house, Journey’s End, in Sibu, Sarawak, where my husband and I lived from 1964 to 1967. The night before, locals reported hearing knives being sharpened.

Following the murder and hangings, the house and ghosts were sold off cheaply to the Methodist Church. We never saw the ghosts. A country short of history and heroes cannot be too fussy but that can be of no comfort to Duncan Stewart’s daughter. Pat Johnson, Glenridding, Cumbria
