Staffie kills baby in bed

A NEWBORN baby has been mauled to death by a dog sharing the family bed.

The parents had been watching TV at night with their three-day-old son and the American Staffordshire terrier cross.

Police said the mum started to cough, startling their pet, which then attacked their baby.

The parents, from San Diego, California, wrenched the dog off and took their only child to hospital but he was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Tu Nguyen said: “At this time, we’re looking at this as nothing more than a tragic incident.”

The two-year-old neutered Staffie is in quarantine. It will be up to the owners to decide whether to reclaim it.
