How we put our faith in justice
Our criminal justice system is based on fairness. The principles of open justice and fair trials are sacred to us.
Soon, a number of people who were jailed for terror offences are to be released. Among their number are men convicted for plotting grievous, horrendous crimes.
But our principles stand. These men have served their sentences. They must be freed.
And now we have to place our trust in the authorities. Trust that every step has been taken to rehabiliate these prisoners. That means assurances they have renounced terror.
We can only hope the authorities have done all they can. Monitored. Deradicalised. Educated.
The fact these men are about to walk the streets means the authorities must feel they are deradicalaised. We trust they’re right.
In the meantime, we will hold our breath. And hope.
