Report told of a threat

- By Patrick Hill

A GOVERNMENT- backed report accurately predicted the Westminster terror attack six weeks ago.

The report by Treasury- funded insurance company Pool Re on February 7 said Britain’s next terror incident was likely to be carried out by a lone-wolf Islamist attacker.

It predicted that knives and a vehicle would be used at a crowded, high-profile spot and that police officers were targets.

The 40-page report warned: “An attack in the UK by Islamist extremists remains highly likely.”

It said that in addition to Islamic State, Britain still faces a threat from al-Qaeda, which has been rebuilding.

The report revealed security services are dealing with 550 terrorist threats at any time and have thwarted 13 attacks since 2013.

Around 400 IS fighters have returned to the UK, including 70 considered high risk.
