Girl mowed down with her gran in hit and run

-

A HIT-and-run driver left a four-year-old girl fighting for her life yesterday and a woman, believed to be her gran, seriously injured.

The child was crossing the road with the woman, 55, when a black Ford Fiesta ploughed into them.

The car then crashed into a lamppost before the two men inside it fled the scene.

It happened at 3pm on Friday i n St Helens, Merseyside. Both victims were in hospital last night.

The child was in a critical condition and the woman was “serious but stable”.

Witnesses said the car sped through traffic lights before hitting the pair.

Dad-of-two Chris Lang said: “The car must have been going 70 to 80mph and hit the woman and child, who were crossing the road.

“It was an awful scene and distressing.”

Merseyside Police are hunting the two men, aged between 15 and 20, and released CCTV images of them as they walked away.

The stolen car was noticed by cops before the crash, prompting a probe by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
