Engaging ring idea
DEMAND for proposal rings is on the increase – because would-be fiances don’t want to risk buying the wrong engagement ring.
Many jewellers now sell “holding bands” to suitors, rather than shelling out a month’s salary, as is traditional.
It means that when women accept a proposal, they can then go and choose a ring to their own taste.
Argos has seen demand double in the past month for its £54.99 platinum-plated ring with zirconia stone.
Marks and Spencer sells one for just £19.99, while Beaverbrooks will partexchange any of its 18-ring range, priced from £ 40, towards the real thing.
Gavin Pepper, 37, from Kent, proposed to Stephanie Cunningham, 26, with a £50 Beaverbrooks ring. He said: “She was over the moon being able to choose one herself.”
