BARACK Obama expected more investment from David Cameron to rebuild Libya after Gaddafi was overthrown, according to one of the former US president’s top aides.

Former White House foreign policy adviser Ben Rhodes also said the international response in Libya “should have done better”.

He told BBC Radio 4: “I think people thought there was going to be a longer timeline to build up institutions in Libya, and within about a year following when Cameron and (French president Nicolas) Sarkozy travelled to Libya, it was going to be impossible to put things back together.”
