A Fab sum for poster

-

A BEATLES poster for a 1963 concert fetched £ 28,000 at auction – 35 times the £800 asking price.

It was sold by Welsh pop star Mary Hopkin who had a No1 single in 1968 with Those Were the Days.

A lifelong fan of the Fab Four phoned in the winning bid from San Francisco.

Auctioneers Rogers Jones in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, said: “It shows the interest in Beatles memorabilia. They are the most important group culturally in the 20th century.”

The poster for the event in Llandudno advertised tickets for five shillings, 25p today. Mary, 67, was on the Beatles’ Apple label.
