I’ve lost home but feel lucky to hit 30

-

A SURVIVOR of the tragedy has spoken of her relief at living to see her 30th birthday.

Zoe Dee, right, said: “Even now I don’t care about losing my home and possessions. I’ve got my life. I escaped.”

She was in the fourthfloor flat she shared with her mother and sister for 25 years when she was woken by loud banging on the door.

At first Zoe stayed in the flat, as instructed, but left when neighbours urged her to flee.

“I went back to the front door, opened it and it was thick black smoke,” she said. “My eyes were burning but the communal smoke alarms didn’t go off.”

Zoe, 30 in three weeks, said: “I’m angry that this could have been prevented, that people lost loved ones and that people are still missing.”
