WAIST AWAY Mel: Get some elasticated tr ousers, Noel
THE Great British Bake Off’s new host Noel Fielding should prepare to gain a lot of weight, warns his predecessor Mel Giedroyc.
The departing presenter also advised him to “buy some elasticated trousers”.
Mel offered the hot tips to her old friend ahead of his debut on the show following its move from the BBC to Channel 4.
“I loved all the cake while I was on Bake Off and I’d be very disappointed if Noel didn’t put on quite a few pounds while he’s there,” she said.
“Elasticated trousers are an absolute must-have in the weekend bag. I hope he wears a pair.”
She added: “I’ve known Noel for quite a while now and we recently did a show together. He’s a lovely, lovely guy.”
The only original judge on Bake Off when it launches on Channel 4 this summer will be Paul Hollywood. Mary Berry and Sue Perkins have both left along with Mel. The new line-up will be completed by Prue Leith and Sandi Toksvig.
Mel, 48, went it alone last night when she presented new talent show Pitch Battle.
The BBC1 singing competition – based on the concept behind the movie Pitch Perfect – involves groups facing off against each other in a series of rounds.
The winners will pick up the £50,000 prize at a live final in six weeks’ time. British choirmaster Gareth Malone and American singer Kelis are judging – helped eachch week by superstar guests including Seal,eal, Joe Jonas, Chaka Khan and Will Young.ng.
Mel said: “It’s so much fun and I’m very excited. This is my first show on my own and I’m rather enjoying the full spototlight of attention.”
She told how her own singing ng voice was nicely honed in the schoolol choir – which she admits joining justust so she could meet lads.
“That was the only reason,” said Mel. “I went to a girls’ school and twice a year we linked up with a boys’ choir. The placeace was chocker. Our choir had 400 girls,ls, as it was a good way to meet guys. I had my first snog through a choir.”
The mum- of- two added: “My youngest has a very good ear. Shee was part of a choir last year but seems ms to have slightly dropped out. The call of boys has moved her in another directionrection and I’m going to steer her back to the choir – although who am I to talk?” lk?”
