Syria peace talk hopes

-

SYRIA was given fresh hope yesterday after Russia proposed two days of talks.

They are due to start on July 4 and will firm down details on “safe zones”. The zones are supposed to offer refuge and aid to people escaping violence.

The talks will take place in Astana in Kazakhstan. Russia, Turkey and Iran have organised several negotiations there this year, bringing government and rebel forces together.

It follows the Syrian military’s announcement it was stopping combat operations in the city of Daraa for 48 hours.

Russia said the peace talk dates had been welcomed. It is hoped there will be progress at a July 7 G20 summit in Germany too.
