Rail service 29% worse
BRITAIN’S rail services are getting worse, with a massive jump in the number of trains being cancelled or arriving late.
Last year, 241,932 trains did not run or arrived more than 30 minutes late – equivalent to almost 700 services each day.
The figures, obtained under Freedom of Information laws, show the number of delayed or axed services increased 29 per cent on the previous 12 months.
The firm with the worst record is Govia Thameslink Railway, which runs the Southern service.
Almost one in 10 of all its trains were either cancelled or arrived significantly late last year.
Anthony Smith, of watchdog Transport Focus, said: “Now that passengers are paying more than ever, it’s critical train companies and Network Rail delivers a more reliable railway.”
