New Who will be top
DOCTOR Who’s former assistant Karen Gillan is thrilled Jodie Whittaker has become the first female Time Lord – and predicts she’ll rejuvenate the show.
Karen, 29, said: “When I saw the news I was gasping. ‘They’ve done it! They’ve really done it this time!’
“I’m so happy it’s a female finally. People question whether a female can play the role and that’s ridiculous. We’re about to find out with Jodie. She’s such an amazing actress.”
Broadchurch star Jodie, 35, will be the 13th Doctor – replacing Peter Capaldi, 59. Karen added: “I think she’s going to rejuvenate the whole show.”
Karen played Amy Pond alongside Matt Smith until 2012. Now starring in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, she said: “So many people said it can’t be a woman and I’m like, ‘of course it can’.”
