JUDI MAKES EXHIBITION OF HERSELF

- By

Beth, 42, said: “We’re very upset. It’s the thought of him rotting on a heap somewhere that’s really difficult.

“When I first heard he’d been taken by the council I thought, ‘That’s a big relief, we’ll get him back’. But it was worse. He’s just been trashed basically.

“They denied for over a week they’d taken him. Eventually we got a phone call from the council saying, ‘We’re really sorry but your cat is gone’.” Campaigners COSTUMES worn by Dame Judi Dench in her forthcoming role as Queen Victoria are going on display at the former monarch’s home on the Isle of Wight.

Dame Judi stars in Victoria and Abdul, which tells the real story of the unlikely friendship between the Queen and her Indian attendant Abdul Karim.

Garments worn by 82-year-old Judi and co-stars Eddie Izzard, who plays Prince Edward VII, and Ali Fazal, who plays Karim, will be on show at Osborne House, the English Heritage property where much of the film was shot.

The garments are the work of Oscar- nominated costume designer Consolata Boyle. She also worked with the film’s director Stephen Frears on his previous movies The Queen and Florence Foster Jenkins.

Ms Boyle said: “The thought that my costumes for Victoria and Abdul will inhabit the same rooms and gardens where Queen Victoria walked and lingered makes it a particular honour and joy for me.”

Michael Hunter, English Heritage curator at Osborne, said: “This was Queen Victoria’s private family home, so visitors can step straight into her world.

“Victoria and Abdul is the first film to use the interiors of Osborne as a location and these costumes add an extra layer to the rich experience of a visit here. We can’t wait to see it in all its glory on the big screen, in particular the story of how an Indian man servant won the Queen’s respect and trust.”

The exhibition runs from tomorrow until September 30 – just after Victoria and Abdul hits UK cinema screens.

A 5ft 4in khaki wool scarf crocheted by Queen Victoria for Boer War hero Sergeant William Colclough in 1900 is expected to fetch £12,000 at London auction house Spink on Wednesday.
