Online team to fight hate

-

A NEW national police hub will track down trolls and rid social media of abusive content. Home Secretary Amber Rudd said the measure will lead to more prosecutions of offenders over hate crimes based on race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or transgenderism. Ms Rudd, below, said: “Online hate crime is unacceptable. What is illegal offline is illegal online and those who commit these cowardly crimes should be met with the full force of the law. “The national online hate crime hub we are funding is an important step to ensure more victims have the confidence to come forward and report abuse.” After referral to the national hub via police reporting site True Vision, complaints will be assessed and relevant cases assigned to loclocal forces. A total 662,518 hate crimcrimes were recorded in England and Wales ini 2015/1616. The nnew hub will be opopen befobefore the eend of the year.
