Honour your Grenfell pledge
THE refurbishment of the Palace of Westminster will cost billions.
We understand the need to protect Parliament and that £118million has been set aside for fire safety, including sprinklers.
But the message of Grenfell is being ignored. Dozens lost their lives and the authorities vowed to learn lessons. Yet still thousands of tenants are living in tower blocks without sprinklers and councils have been told there’s no money to fit them. But somehow there is enough to make Parliament safe. It can’t be one rule for MPs and another for us. Philip Hammond must find the money in the upcoming budget.
