Cru­elty fix at abat­toirs

ALL slaugh­ter­houses in Eng­land will have CCTV fit­ted by next Easter in a bid to stamp out cru­elty.

Food Stan­dards Agency vets will be given full ac­cess to the film by En­vi­ron­ment Sec­re­tary Michael Gove.

Li­cences can be re­voked for mis­con­duct. The worst cases will go to the po­lice.

Re­search by An­i­mal Aid found law-break­ing in ten of 11 ran­dom abat­toirs from 2009- 16. Atroc­i­ties in­cluded an­i­mals be­ing hit and work­ers stub­bing out cig­a­rettes in pigs’ faces.
