Cruelty fix at abattoirs

ALL slaughterh­ouses in England will have CCTV fitted by next Easter in a bid to stamp out cruelty.

Food Standards Agency vets will be given full access to the film by Environmen­t Secretary Michael Gove.

Licences can be revoked for misconduct. The worst cases will go to the police.

Research by Animal Aid found law-breaking in ten of 11 random abattoirs from 2009- 16. Atrocities included animals being hit and workers stubbing out cigarettes in pigs’ faces.
