TV Yule ad gifts frenzy

- By Stephen Hayward

SHOPPERS trying to snap up gifts featured on new Christmas TV ads were left disappointed yesterday.

A £15 night light shown in the £7million John Lewis advert was out of stock online and at some stores.

Also sold out online was Marks & Spencer’s special edition Paddington bear, star of its seasonal ad.

The Lewis commercial, first screened on Friday, shows a boy called Joe unwrapping the lamp – a gift from his imaginary monster pal Moz to help him sleep.

Store chiefs denied being caught out by the demand, saying: “The lamp is still in most shops. More are being made available online.”

M&S produced 50,000 Paddingtons but said stores should sell out in a week as 15,000 were bought since its ad’s debut last Tuesday.
