TV Yule ad gifts frenzy

SHOPPERS try­ing to snap up gifts fea­tured on new Christ­mas TV ads were left dis­ap­pointed yes­ter­day.

A £15 night light shown in the £7mil­lion John Lewis ad­vert was out of stock on­line and at some stores.

Also sold out on­line was Marks & Spencer’s spe­cial edi­tion Padding­ton bear, star of its sea­sonal ad.

The Lewis com­mer­cial, first screened on Fri­day, shows a boy called Joe un­wrap­ping the lamp – a gift from his imag­i­nary monster pal Moz to help him sleep.

Store chiefs de­nied be­ing caught out by the de­mand, say­ing: “The lamp is still in most shops. More are be­ing made avail­able on­line.”

M&S pro­duced 50,000 Padding­tons but said stores should sell out in a week as 15,000 were bought since its ad’s de­but last Tues­day.
